There are notebooks that have traditional lines on one side, then graph grids on the other side of each sheet. These are typically not at Target or Walmart, but places like Staples or a college bookstore carries them. We do not do nearly as much graphing by hand as we did 10 years ago, but still occasionally they help. The reason I recommend these books is if your student has a really difficult time reading their own math notes historically, the grid blocks on the one side of the page can help force handwriting organization in just day to day work.

You only need ONE notebook - spiral bound, marble, or the graph paper one (explained below). I would not recommend a 3 or 5 subject notebook for math - get a one-subject book and use it for this class only.

For correcting work, a bright color or 2 that does not look like pencil,

Preferably TI-84 or possibly TI-83 (which you can find used for a bargain), although for budget concerns please obtain some workign scientific calculator which can compute exponents and roots.
