Announcements from Guidance

Paid Internship: The Division Of Child Neurology at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is conducting a Neurology High School Scholars Summer Program. The Program offers a five-week internship which involves working closely with a neurologist on a basic science and research project and shadowing physicians in the clinic. Interested candidates must submit two letters of recommendation.

Applications are available in the Guidance office. Deadline is March 1, 2019.

Instant Decision Day: Chestnut Hill College will be conducting an Instant Decision Day on Tuesday, February 19 in the Guidance office.  This is a great opportunity for those who haven’t decided what college they are attending in the Fall or for those who have not applied to college. The counselor will meet with you and let you know that day, if you are accepted.

Students must register by the end of this week.  There is a sign-up sheet in the Guidance office.

The Pennsylvania House of Representatives' Scholarship Program enhances educational opportunities for eligible students who reside in Pennsylvania. The program provides four-year scholarships to two high school seniors per year. The award is to be used toward the cost of tuition and fees for a four-year program at a college, university or career school in Pennsylvania.

The Asian American Women’s Coalition Scholarship recognizes female Asian American high school students who have made a positive and lasting impact on our local community through service and leadership.  Multiple scholarships are awarded each year to high school seniors. For eligibility guidelines and an application, stop by the Guidance office.

The ACE Mentor Program is a free after school program for female high school students to learn about design and construction industry. Go to the job board across from the North student bathrooms for more info.

Attention Seniors:
 
If a college is requesting that you submit your Midyear Grades, you must complete a form in the Guidance office in order for them to be sent. There is no fee involved.
 
Please bring ALL acceptance letters and scholarship information to the Guidance office.  We will make copies for you. We want to recognize your accomplishments!  Your name will be posted our school website. In addition, we need this data for Graduation.

Special Events

Color Games will continue today. Today’s lunch game will be a Spelling Bee. Remember to bring sneakers tomorrow for Volleyball! The Relay Race is Thursday. Academic bowl will continue today with Theology. Tomorrow will be Math, and Thursday is pop culture.
 
All students involved in the Talent Show this Friday must finalize their music by tomorrow. Mrs. Young will confirm all song selections with Stage Crew on Thursday.
 
“Girls Who Code” is a free 7 week summer immersion program that gives girls exposure to the incredible field of computer science careers. Deadline is March 15th for any 10th and 11th grade girls interested. You can apply online at www.girlswhocode.com/SIPapply.
 
Sign Ups for gym games for the Color Games finale are in Student Affairs. There is a two game limit. You may sign your name as an “alternate” if spots are already filled.
 

The American Red Cross Blood Drive will be here on Wednesday, Feb. 27. You can sign up during your lunch periods.

Aeronautical Engineering: Jack Thackrah, a 2015 Ryan Graduate and currently in his fourth year at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, has offered to speak with students who may be interested in Aeronautical Engineering and just military life in general.  The meeting will take place in N102 immediately after dismissal on Thursday, March 28. If you would like to speak with Jack, sign up with Sister Alice in N102 today.
 

Attention Juniors:  Because of the high response to the DC trip, a fourth bus will be added. Spots are still available. Please Note: Attendance is mandatory on Monday, April 15 to attend the trip on Tuesday, the 16th. Submit your permission forms and payment to the tuition office as soon as possible. If you decide to opt out of the trip but already submitted payment, see Mrs. Costello in Tuition.

Stage Crew will be having a meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 20 after school in the auditorium. Remember to bring work clothes.

The Varsity Ice Hockey game versus Cardinal O'Hara postponed from Monday is rescheduled to Wednesday, February 20th at 7:20pm at Skate Zone.

Upcoming Meetings

Boys Volleyball sign-ups will held during lunch period TODAY. Anyone is interested should see Head Coach Dave Kramer outside the lunchrooms.
 
The final sign up for anyone who plans to tryout in March for the Softball Team will be TODAY after school in the North Cafeteria.
 

All members of the Freshman Basketball team are reminded that they must return their clean and washed uniforms to the Athletic Director’s Office by no later than Tuesday, Feb. 19th.

It is now 2 weeks until the opening practices for spring sports:

  • Baseball/Softball

  • Boys Lacrosse/Girls Lacrosse

  • Boys and Girls Outdoor Track

  • Boys Volleyball

Practice starts March 4th: You will not be allowed to tryout unless you have had a physical and have uploaded it to Family ID online. Please see our Athletic Trainer Ms. Tory Engel whose office is located next to the south weight room for information on Family ID and the steps to fill out.
