St. Matthew School Seventh Grader, Joseph Tangradi, Captures the 13th Annual Archbishop Ryan Invitational Spelling Bee

Results from the 13th Annual Archbishop Ryan Invitational Spelling Bee 

Archbishop Ryan High School hosted their 13th Annual Invitational Spelling Bee for seventh graders on Saturday, April 8, 2017.  The event’s winner was Joseph Tangradi of Saint Matthew School in the Mayfair section of Northeast Philadelphia.  As the grand prize winner, Joseph took home a 4 year $2,000 scholarship to Archbishop Ryan High School.  The spelling bee ended in dramatic fashion after a total of 26 rounds, an Archbishop Ryan Spelling Bee record.  The winning word was hemorrhage.

 Finishing in second place was Amanda Gallagher of Maternity BVM School.  For her second place finish, Amanda was awarded a 4 year $1,000  scholarship to Archbishop Ryan.  Rounding out the top three was Emily Beck of Saint Ephrem School in Bensalem.  For her performance, she captured a 4 year $500 scholarship for her third place finish.

 The event included 16 Catholic grade schools and 50 seventh grade students throughout Philadelphia and Bucks County.  Congratulations to all the participants who competed at their grade school in order to qualify for the Archbishop Ryan event.

 Archbishop Ryan High School is a Catholic coeducational high school located in Northeast Philadelphia.  With over 1,200 students enrolled for the 2016-17 school year it continues to be the largest school in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.  With 11 advanced placement courses, a college credit partnership with Holy Family University, a four year program in both art and instrumental music, and on campus athletic facilities, Archbishop Ryan High school is committed to excellence in both academics and student life.
