PROJECTS
This course mixes students of different levels of skill and experience. Students will develop basic drawing and painting skills. Students will work in a variety of different media and techniques. These will include, but not be limited to pencil, colored pencil, charcoal, pastel, watercolor, marker, ink, and polymer clay. Techniques will range from realistic renderings to abstract and graphic design. Students may enjoy some projects, and may have a hard time with others, but all are expected to complete all projects. Any project not turned in will receive a zero, and any grade is better than a zero.
All work must be turned in by set deadlines to receive full credit. Points will be deducted for folded or damaged work.
5 points will be deducted for each day late.
Most work should be completed during class time. Work that can not be completed in the class time allotted must be completed at home, or on the student's own time.
All late assignments given on days that I am absent (sub assignments) will receive ½ credit, unless the student was not in school on the day it was given. Students who are absent on these days must come see me for the assignment.
TESTS AND QUIZZES
These will be given to assess understanding of terms, techniques and art history learned in relation to studio projects. A written examination will be given at the end of each semester.
CLASSROOM BEHAVIOR AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Each student must in the classroom when the bell rings. Late students will receive demerits. Students must get the materials needed for class and get to work as soon as they get into the classroom. Students must return all materials to designated areas at the end of the class period. Work areas must be left clean. The work and belongings of others must be respected. Do not touch them. Do not waste materials. RECYCLE WHENEVER POSSIBLE. Demerits may be given for violations of these requirements.
CURRENTLY THERE IS NO ART FEE! I WOULD LIKE TO KEEP IT THAT WAY!
CRITIQUES (Evaluations of artwork)
These will be held at the end of each major project. They will sometimes be held in the middle of a project. All students must hang and contribute to the discussion of work.
END OF THE YEAR PORTFOLIO ASSESSMENT Students are responsible for storing all graded work, either in their sketchbook, if it fits, or at home. At the end of the year, each student will submit a portfolio of their 10 best works, along with a written assignment. If the works are mutilated in any way, or the student has not taken care of their work during the year, or has lost some of their best pieces, their grade will suffer. Students need to respect their work.
