Annual Spring Play

On April 19th we raised the "Curtains" for our annual spring musical play! Curtains tells the story of a musical-loving detective who tries to solve the murder of a leading lady in 1959 Boston.

Congratulations to the cast and crew on a fabulous performance!

Archbishop Ryan was filled with the sound of music as AR hosted an all-day Jazz Band workshop that ended the day in a concert on April 6th. The students participating were all members of the All-Catholic High School Jazz Band and the members of the Archdiocesan Elementary Jazz Band. This was the first time that schools were combined with high school musicians with the grade school musicians.

AR students who are members of the All-Catholic Jazz Band are Bishop Norman, Christopher Matt, Aidan Rayss, Tam Dinh, and Billy Jones.

Thank you to all who participated!

The hallways of AR have been busy with potential students who came to see what it is like on Academy Road. On our Universal Visitation Day, held on March 21st, our junior ambassadors assisted in welcoming and giving tours to over 350 7th grade students who are potential members of the Class of 2029.

Next, AR hosted our Spring Open House on April 11th, which gave potential families the chance to take student-led tours, meet with our faculty members, learn more about our clubs and activities and discover why AR is the perfect fit!

Apply today to AR!

Archbishop Ryan art students have participated in the Dad Vail Regatta Poster Contest since 2004, winning 17 out of 20 years. This year the students won 9 out of 10 prizes! The Grand Prize was won by Elisabeth Prushan '25 and will be made into the poster sold at the event in May!

Cheerleading

Congratulations to our 2A Large Varsity Cheerleading team who took home the 2A State Championship at the 2024 PIAA Competitive Spirit State Championships at Giant Center in Hershey, PA in February 2024 to secure its first PIAA crown in school history in any sport.

Archbishop Ryan Boys Basketball

The Raiders hoops squad concluded what many consider the most successful campaign in school history. For the year, the team posted a 20-10 record and finished runner-up in both the Philadelphia Catholic League championship and City Class 5A championship games.  The season started with an invitation to the prestigious “City of Palms” tournament in Ft. Myers, FL and along the way, a number of honors were claimed by team members.  Thomas Sorber ’24 was named co-MVP of the Catholic League while being named to the All-Catholic team for the third consecutive year. Darren Williams ’24 was also named to the first team All-Catholic squad and both Sorber and Williams were named to the Class 5A first team all-state squad and will continue their basketball careers at Georgetown and Florida Gulf Coast, respectively.

Perhaps the most memorable, yet heartbreaking moment of the season occurred when senior guard Ryan Everett hit a 3-point shot at the Palestra, bringing Ryan within 7 seconds of its first PCL Basketball championship. But it wasn’t to be as Roman came down the court and nailed a 2-point shot as time expired to claim the title. The game was viewed by many as the best high school basketball game they ever watched, and even made its way to SportsCenter.

Congratulations to Joe Zeglinski ’06, his staff, and the basketball team on a wonderful and memorable season!

Boys Bowling

Joe McNally '25 recently won the Pennsylvania State High School Individual Bowling Championship and competed in the National Championship. Joe was featured on an AOP Podcast. Listen to Joe talk about how he got into bowling and his success this season at https://aopathletics.org/.../joseph-mcnally-archbishop.../7.

Boys' Lacrosse Giving Back

Thank you to our Boys' Lacrosse Team who provided and delivered an Easter meal and Easter baskets for a local family. In support of the Parents' Association and Coach Taylor, our boys helped to make the holiday a little more special for a local family. We couldn't be prouder of their selflessness and generosity.

Milt Thompson, of the 1993 National League Champion Phillies, recently came out and spent the day with the JV Baseball team.

Milt shared his wealth of knowledge on the game of baseball and talked to the team about what it takes to make it as a student athlete. After sharing experiences from his playing days and being the hitting coach for the 2008 World Series Champion Phillies, Milt led the team in some outfield and hitting drills.

The JV team and the coaches thank Milt Thompson for spending the afternoon with them. What an awesome experience for the JV players!

Congratulations to the AR Swim Team on a fantastic showing at the PIAA Swimming State Championships, which were held at Bucknell University in March. Congratulations are in order to the follow swimmers on their awesome performances:

Girls Medley Relay (Kate M., Kate J., Gina P., Emily Y.)- 29th place.

Lucas Kawaguchi- 32nd in the 200 IM.

AR Alumni Reception in Florida

In March, Archbishop Ryan traveled down to sunny Florida! Joe Sanginiti '75, President and Ed Hughes '79, Director of Major Gifts/EITC started with a visit with Fr. Rene, who is living his best life in retirement, but always happy to have AR visitors. Then they moved south to Naples to host a reception with all of the lucky alums escaping the cold weather up north. A great time had by all!

Career Day 2024

Archbishop Ryan hosted Career Day on March 19th. Our day started with our Keynote Speaker, Lynn Fallon ‘81. Lynn is the President, Co-Founder and Vice Chair of CTI Clinical Trial and Consulting Services with over 35 years of clinical, academic, and industry experience. After the conclusion of our Keynote Speaker, our students broke into four different sessions of their choosing. We had 70 speakers representing various career fields, who shared their experiences with the students. The day concluded with a luncheon for our guests, where they had the opportunity to mingle with each other, faculty, staff, and our Student Ambassadors. Our 2024 Career Day speakers hailed from the Class of 1969 through 2017.
