BLOCS works within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania EITC & OSTC guidelines, using an outside award administrator to determine eligibility for financial grants. Over the past several years, funds for financial support have increased. Unfortunately so has the demand, which continues to significantly exceed supply.
 

As a result, filing of an application and payment of an application fee does not in any way guarantee the awarding of BLOCS assistance. The application opens October 1 for the following academic year. For example, it will open October 1, 2023 for the 2024-2025 academic year. To apply for BLOCS you must complete the FACTS application.

Archbishop Ryan Merit Based Awards

Each year, we award hundreds of thousands of dollars in awards as an investment in our students. These academic awards are offered as a result of the Collaborative Placement Exam, which takes place in October of your 8th grade year.
 
Each year, the profile of the award recipients varies based on the successes of the applicant pool and amounts are tiered into three four, all based on performance in the test, classroom grades, and school involvement.
 
The awards are: The Archbishop John Patrick Ryan Award, The President's Award, The Principal's Award, and the Dean's Award. Unless otherwise noted, awards are for four years. A FACTS application is required before any awards (merit or need-based) will be granted. Apply now at www.arhs.me/FACTS.

Music Awards Auditions: Closed for 2024-2025 School Year

The music department of Archbishop Ryan High School is proud to offer THREE (3) music scholarships to all incoming freshmen. Scholarships are awarded to music students who demonstrate a high level of skill on their chosen instrument, a willingness to commit to academic and extracurricular music activities, and a desire to develop their talents to the full potential.

If accepted, scholarship recipients will be required to take Concert Band or Orchestra all four (4) years of their studies. Awardees will also be required to participate in at least one (1) extracurricular music activity all four (4) years. These activities include: pep band, jazz band, pit orchestra, and/or chorus. Scholarships can be rescinded if requirements are not met and maintained.
 
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:
 
1) Flute, Clarinet, Saxophones, Trumpet, Trombone, Baritone Horn, Tuba, Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Guitar, Bass Guitar
    - TWO (2) major and/or minor scales
         - 1-2 octaves, played in quarter notes
         - Minimum tempo - 80 bpm
    - Solo piece or etude of the student’s choosing, minimum 16 measures
 
2) Mallet Percussion
    - TWO (2) major and/or minor scales

         - 2 octaves, played in quarter notes

         - Minimum tempo - 80 bpm

    - Solo piece or etude of the student’s choosing, minimum 16 measures

 

3) Snare Drum/Unpitched Percussion
    - FIVE (5) drum rudiments

        - Single-stroke roll, double-stroke roll, paradiddle, flam, five-stroke roll

    - Snare drum solo/etude

        - Minimum 32 measures

Theater Arts Awards Auditions: Open for 2024-2025 School Year
 
Theater Arts Department Scholarship auditions are open to 8th graders who will be attending Archbishop Ryan High School in the following Fall. Auditions will be Friday, January 26, 3:00 - 5:30pm. Please send student's
name, what they will be auditioning (just the category), grade school, and student
email to [email protected]. They must be in 8th grade.

Students must prepare two of the three choices listed below.  Each choice should
be no longer than three minutes and not less than one.

1.  A song. An aux hook up will be provided so students should bring their own
music, preferably without vocals on them. Song should showcase their talents and
must be memorized.

2.  A dance. This should focus on the student's abilities, technique and training.
They should bring music as well.

3. A monologue/reading. It must be memorized and acted out. Comedy or
drama; something to show the student's abilities in acting.

This will help them get started. Auditions will be scheduled 15 minutes apart.
Please be on time and prepared. Parents will not be allowed to watch. Further
instructions will be sent when you schedule your audition.

Fine Arts Awards: Open for 2024-2025 School Year

Archbishop Ryan High School is offering the opportunity for 8th-grade students who will be attending Ryan in the 2024-2025 school year to be awarded a scholarship for their artistic talents.

The criteria are:

  • A self-portrait
  • A one-piece that shows the understanding of linear perspective
(Linear perspective is a technique used by artists to create the illusion of space)
  • A one-piece that the student believes best demonstrates their talents. 
 
Work can be created in any medium. There is no size requirement

 

The student’s name must be on each piece of work.  All work must be original and will be returned.

Grand Prize: $10,000 Scholarship ($2,500 a year for 4 years)
First Prize: $8,000 Scholarship ($2,000 a year for 4 years)
Second Prize: $4,000 Scholarship ($1,000 a year for 4 years)
 
Winners of the scholarship are required to take art in order to receive and maintain the scholarship.
 
Deadline Extended: Work is due by Friday, January 26, 2024. Please print the submission form and submit with your artwork.
 
 
The George Karusky, IV Memorial Foundation keeps the spirit of GK4 alive. Georgie was a true Ryan Raider, a three-sport athlete who played baseball, soccer and football. Being a student in the Bonaventure Program afforded Georgie the opportunity to reach his full academic potential. He was set to start Chestnut Hill College to play football in the fall of 2020. Georgie gained great relationships with many people because of school and sports. At such a young age, he brought many people together and truly embraced everyone that he met.
 
The GK4 Memorial Foundation is offering two four-year scholarships, at $500.00 per year, to two students (a Raider and a Ragdoll) entering 9th grade at Archbishop Ryan High School for the school year of 2024-2025.  Applications must be submitted by Monday, February 26, 2024.
 
 
The Sergeant Patrick McDonald Scholarship Fund is an external scholarship and was established to honor the late Patrick McDonald, a 1996 Archbishop Ryan graduate and Philadelphia Highway Patrol Sergeant. Patrick lost his life in the line of duty in 2008.
 
As a result of the incredible love and generosity from Patrick's family, friends, co-workers and the local business community, this fund was established. The application can be found here.
 
 
The Charles E. Ellis Trust for Girls
The Charles E. Ellis Trust for Girls helps eligible young women in Philadelphia excel in high school and be prepared for post-secondary success. For girls attending parochial high schools, we award grants to help cover the cost of tuition. 
 
Grants from The Ellis Trust are awarded to girls entering grades nine through twelve who meet the following criteria:
  • - Live in Philadelphia, in a household where one or both parents are absent, or mentally or physically disabled.
  • - Meet the family income eligibility requirements for reduced-priced lunch under the National School Lunch Program.
  • - Have grades of ·C· or better in major school subjects.
  • - Are making academic progress toward timely graduation. Can prove their dependency status (name appears on their family's tax return or DPA document).
  • - Are In a family that does not own property other than their primary home. 
 
Applications for the Ellis Trust tuition assistance grants for girls attending parochial high schools are available beginning on January 1, 2024. Link to the application will be available at that time.

We are Alumni of Northeast Catholic High School (Philadelphia, PA) known as the "Norphans". Our goal is to assist families with the ever-increasing cost of Catholic education in the Philadelphia area. We strive to help those most in need of financial assistance.
 
We ask for presidents & principals of Archdiocesan High Schools in the 5 county Philadelphia region to encourage sons and daughters of North Catholic alums to apply for Norphans Grants. Our Alma Mater may be closed, but the Falcon Spirit shall never die.  The Norphans grant is awarded to financially needy students who are direct descendants of Northeast Catholic Alumni (child, grandchild, great-grandchild).  These grants are one-time grants for the current school year.

Corporal Jimmy O'Connor Memorial Fund
The Jimmy O’Connor grant is awarded to children or grandchildren of active or retired police officers in the Philadelphia region. These grants are for up to four years in the amount of $500 per year.  These grants are named for Jimmy O’Connor, a Philadelphia Police Officer who was killed in the line of duty.  Although Jimmy was a graduate of Northeast Catholic, there is no requirement that the Jimmy O’Connor grant recipient be a descendant of a Northeast Catholic alum.  This scholarship is for up to four years
 
 

Charlotte Drummond Memorial Scholarship
The Charlotte Drummond Memorial Scholarship is offering a Legacy scholarship that keeps the spirit of Charlotte Drummond and her dedication to Catholic education alive, and a Cardinal Dougherty Alumni Scholarship for a student whose grandparent, parent, or sibling attended Cardinal Dougherty.

Sophomores and Juniors are eligible to apply for this scholarship to assist with tuition for the 2024-2025 school year. Applications and Guidelines are available in the Guidance office. Contact: [email protected]

The application period for the 2023-2024 academic year is September 15, 2023 to October 16, 2023. Early applications will not be accepted. 
 
Daniel Boyle graduated from Archbishop Ryan High School in 1987. His career path eventually led him to the Philadelphia Police Department. In February of 1990, Danny entered the Philadelphia Police Academy. In February of 1990, Danny entered the Philadelphia Police Academy. After completing his studies, he was assigned to the 26th Police district at East Girard and Montgomery Avenues. 
 

On February 6, 1991, Dan was killed in the line of duty. The Officer Daniel Boyle Scholarship Fund was established at the suggestion of several of Danny's classmates. The purpose of this scholarship fund is to assist financially those families who may find the increasingly high costs of a catholic education difficult, or impossible, for their children. The Officer Daniel Boyle Scholarship Fund is open to RYAN STUDENTS CURRENTLY ENROLLED IN GRADES 9-12 ONLY, without regard to race, sex, national origin, or religious beliefs. Our only intent is to help as many families with the education of their children. 

Bob Hughes Scholarship and Betty Ann Kempf Scholarship
The purpose of the Cardinal Dougherty Soccer Alumni is to remember, honor, and celebrate all aspects of Cardinal Dougherty Soccer Alumni. Another key goal is to give back to our surrounding soccer community and alumni members when financially possible.
 
These scholarships are named to honor the legacy of the first coaches of the CD soccer programs. They will be awarded to one young man for the Bob Hughes Scholarship and one young lady for the Betty Ann Kempf Scholarship. The amount of scholarships given vary from year to year, pending the amount of money gained to fund these scholarships. They range from 500.00 to 1000.00.

We Are CD Scholarship
These scholarships have been created to honor the legacy of Cardinal Dougherty High School.  They are designated for family members of Cardinal Dougherty Alumni. These scholarships will be awarded to students at the Hall of Fame Ceremony. The amount of scholarships given vary from year to year, pending the amount of money gained to fund these scholarships. They range from 500.00 to 1000.00.

The selection committees for these scholarships includes members of the Cardinal Dougherty Soccer Alumni Committee and Cardinal Dougherty Soccer Hall of Fame members.

St. Anthony Di Padova Society of Southwest Philadelphia Scholarship The St. Anthony Di Padova Society of Southwest Philadelphia has partnered with the Lawrence and Phyllis Rebbecchi Sr. Memorial Scholarship to award scholarships to Catholic school students for the 2024-2025 school year.   This year we will be awarding eight $2500 scholarships to a student attending high schools associated with our Society members, which includes your school.  We will also be offering four $5000 scholarships to students attending select local Catholic colleges, which may be of interest to your current seniors.  We ask for your assistance in advertising the attached flyer to potential applicants at your school who match the scholarship criteria, which includes students who:

  • will be enrolled in high school for the 2024-2025 school year.
  • must be a practicing Catholic.
  • Provide a report card showing a B or better average.
  • Write a 1000-word maximum essay on “How has Catholicism impacted your life.”

Mitchell Scholarship S The Monsignor John Mitchell Memorial Scholarship Fund seeks to support Catholic African American students with exceptional academic ability who are in need of financial assistance. Scholarships are awarded annually based upon the determination of the selection Committee. Families can apply by clicking here and completing the application. The deadline is 4/30/2024. For this scholarship, students must be:

  • Catholic and African American
  • in good academic standing with at least a cumulative B average at the time of the scholarship award
  • eligible for financial assistance as determined by a completed FACTS Grant & Aid application
  • committed to serving his/her community
  • interested in or currently attending and AOPS high school.
