Career Day 2022
After a 2 year absence, Career Day is returning to Archbishop Ryan High School on November 3. The format will change this year from presentations inserted into Junior and Senior classrooms to a day-long event for Freshmen thru Seniors who can participate and gain insight into various careers and what any given day in this field is like.
Students will have to sign up for the 45 minute sessions in advance which will allow them to hear about careers they want to learn more about and not just sit through what’s presented to them. As with past Career Days, we are looking for presenting participants who want to talk with our students and help them understand these professions. Presenters need not be alumni, but as in prior years, the overwhelming roster of presenters are alum and we hope you’ll participate. This year’s keynote speaker is out of this world!
Will you help?
For many High School students, deciding on a career is full of questions: Where do I start? Should I go to college? Do I want to be a professional, white collar worker, such as a lawyer, an accountant, a doctor? What about the trades where opportunities in carpentry, plumbing and electrical vocations exist? Why not education or public service? So many choices with all of us facing the same dilemma so many years ago.
For many years, Archbishop Ryan has helped its student body through interactive sessions with Ryan Alum who come back to school and speak with students about their own career path. These sessions provide our students with insight regarding certain career choices: how to begin; what to expect; what’s expected of you; what the day-to-day activity is like; etc.
Past speakers have included union representatives, entrepreneurs, finance professionals, government and law enforcement officials, business executives, teachers, members of our armed forces, broadcast and entertainment workers, scientists, medical professionals, etc. These participants have expressed a tremendous level of satisfaction knowing they’ve provided some guidance for future generations while giving back to their alma mater. We hope you’ll choose to help and come back to see what’s happening at AR!!
The day will begin at 7:45 AM with a general session for the student body featuring a keynote speaker, followed by interactive sessions with students. In general, participants will spend the day, meeting with students throughout the morning and provide insight regarding what led them to their chosen path and what their vocation entails. The sessions will end at approximately noon followed by a a light lunch and a talk with our President, Joe Sanginiti ’75 will address those who remain.
A continental breakfast will be available before 8:00AM and lunch will be available for those who stay thru noon.
Special thanks to Dave Bontempo ’75 and Pat Smith ’73 who are coordinating the speaker roster for the day.
If you are interested in participating in this annual event on November 3rd, or have questions about the event itself outside scheduling, please contact Ed Hughes ([email protected]) or Colleen Kean ([email protected]) or call 215.637.1800 extension 7038.
