Staff Announcement - Athletics

Archbishop Ryan High School announces the retirement of Athletic Director, George Todt. He will stay on part-time as AD Emeritus for the 2018-19 school year, his 50th year at Ryan.

Since Archbishop Ryan opened its doors, Mr. Todt has been one of the mainstays of the institution. A quick timeline of his career is insufficient – graduating from St. Joseph’s University with a degree in Education, entering Ryan as a French teacher and soccer coach in 1969, adding Athletic Director in 1976. Then retiring as soccer coach in 2012, and now as AD.

As soccer coach, his accomplishments are many:

  • 649-162-117 record, achieving the most victories in Pennsylvania state history and currently ninth overall in the United States, according to the National Federation of State High School Associations.
  • From 1984-88, his teams went on a 61-game unbeaten streak.
  • 13 Philadelphia Catholic League Titles

Mr. Todt ends his tenure as the full-time Athletic Director after 42 years. But more than just stats and years, he has shaped the lives and futures of thousands of players and students, and some of their children who came to study and play at Ryan.

Regarding this announcement, Mr. Todt happily reminisced about his time at Ryan and looks forward.

“I will always be connected to Ryan – physically, mentally and spiritually. I'm in the "Pop-Pop" phase of my life now with nine grandchildren. I know I will leave with a smile on my face, happy and blessed to spend one life at one school. I got so much more out of it than I gave."
